Hold a steelman debate at the tableHagan un debate en la mesa defendiendo al otro lado
Pick a real question about AI, gather sources, argue the other side's best case before your own, and let the family vote on who did it best.

StepsPasos
- Choose a question and split into two sides.
- Each side gathers two or three real sources and writes its position, with a source for every claim.
- The swap: trade positions, and each side builds the best case for the other side using its sources.
- Hold the debate. Each side gets the same time to argue the other side's best case first, then its own.
- The family votes for the best opposing case, not the loudest speaker.
- Close with each person naming one thing they now understand better about the other side.
What you needLo que necesita
- A question everyone can argue, such as: should our library let kids use AI tools?
- Two or three real sources for each side, gathered with a grown-upDos o tres fuentes reales para cada lado, reunidas con una persona adulta
- Paper, pencils and a timerPapel, lápices y un cronómetro
Things already at home.Cosas que ya hay en casa.
A grown-up helps choose the question and checks that every source is real. Argue ideas, never people, and no one is mocked for a position. If you research with an AI tool, a grown-up drives it, and the AI is never a source: find the real one.

A steelman is the strongest, fairest version of the side you disagree with, the opposite of a straw man that is easy to knock down. Arguing it first makes you understand the question, and it makes your own case stronger and more honest. Ethics is not just opinions: a position needs sources, and winning is not about being loudest. Questions about AI, such as privacy, work and who is accountable when a tool gets something wrong, are not far away; they reach your own community, your library and the jobs around you.

Argue the other side so well that the person who holds it says: yes, that is exactly what I think, and that is the best way to put it.Defienda el otro lado tan bien que la persona que lo sostiene diga: sí, eso es exactamente lo que pienso, y esa es la mejor manera de decirlo.

Science is about changing one thing and watching what happens. Write down your guess, your hypothesis, before you start.
- Hold the debate once with each side arguing only its own case, and once with the swap. Ask everyone which version made them think harder.
- Add one local fact to each side, something from your own community, and see whether it makes the argument stronger.
